Vela Kurv Examines the Theory of “Conspiracy” with Star Trek TNG

Vela Kurv Academy School Log

After Captain Picard diverts the Enterprise-D to a secret captains meeting with an old friend, Starship Horatio Captain Walker Keel and some of Starfleet’s finest commanders, Picard finds the Horatio blown to bits just hours after the meeting. Picard has commander Data investigate transmissions to/from Starfleet and discovers a covert plan to conquer Starfleet Command. Picard decides to seek out the culprit of conspiracy and returns the Enterprise to Earth looking for answers.
Picard’s warning by the captains’ secret meeting bear out when Picard discovers that numerous key Starfleet personnel are being controlled by an extragalactic intelligence. Picard and Riker, second-in-command, are successful in stopping the intelligence and neutralizing its control but its origin and purpose remain a total mystery.
The intelligence that has taken over Inspector General Dexter Remmick only states that it seeks co-existence but to what end; the intelligence is the governing entity in control of each inhabited body at Starfleet command. This is one threat that remains a mystery. Not all missions of command will be resolved, that is why duty and virulence must always prevail, hopefully with a presiding balance of goodwill, and not blind endeavors like the results of a self destructed society in “The Arsenal of Freedom”, (see entry entitled: Vela Kurv Experiences “The Arsenal of Freedom” with the Star Trek TNG).

Vela Kurv Experiences “The Big Goodbye” with Star Trek TNG

Vela Kurv Academy School Log

Captain Picard must deal with the unexpected in Star Trek TNG’s “The Big Goodbye” episode. The Enterprise-D is ordered to make a diplomatic contact with a reclusive civilization known as the Jarada. Planning for a technological malfunction in a brand new vessel only recently launched from dock was not anticipated. The mission gets delayed when a holdeck malfunction traps the captain with some of his crew inside of it.In this scenario, Riker (the second-in-command) is not able to step into the captain’s shoes, because the Jarada will only accept a precise enunciation of a formal greeting in the Jarada very complex language and only from the ship’s captain. Thankfully Picard is able to belay the threat of his own demise inside the holodeck just as his competent helmsman Geordi La Forge and young acting ensign Wesley Crusher navigate through malfunctioning circuitry and free their captain. The mission is saved with Picard’s correct pronunciation and a new alien race relationship for The Federation is begun.A leader must have a competent staff he can count on to aid him in the execution of assignments and in assisting to conquer the stumbling blocks that prevent a leader from carrying out the orders that only he can accomplish. The requirements of command are so vast, I have much to consider in selecting who and how I will work when I am ready to begin my own command.

Vela Kurv Watches and Studies Captain Picard in “We’ll Always Have Paris”

Vela Kurv Academy School Log

Captain Picard must confront his own choices and torments when the Enterprise crew must race against time due to a scientific accident gone wrong. Investigation determines that temporal distortions have been created by Dr. Paul Manheim, who was studying the relationship between time and gravity. Manheim suffers neurochemical injury caused by the temporal distortions from a science laboratory on the planetoid Vandor IV.
Captain Picard is also confronting his own past, since Dr. Manheim’s wife turns out to be his old flame that almost turned him away from Starfleet. At Picard’s direction, commander Data is successful in repairing the temporal anomaly caused by Manheim’s experiments. At counselor Troi’s bidding, Picard reconciles his own feelings of the past and has a second chance at saying goodbye to his old flame. Picard programs the holodeck (a simulated reality facility located on starships and starbases in the Star Trek universe) aboard ship to duplicate the same café in Paris where he never properly said goodbye because of his own fear that with this old flame, he might not.
This is an episode about the past being dealt with in the present. To Picard’s credit he openly invites the meeting with his old flame to be resolved after he recognizes his own failing in having done so in the past. Picard gets a second chance to right a wrong and right it in Paris, no less. A leader functions best and without regret if he’s able to unload his emotional baggage and focus on his missions at hand.
